The guiding principle behind FirstEdit is restraint. It only makes changes where it has very high confidence the change is correct. Everything else is either flagged as a comment or left entirely for human review.
FirstEdit will:
- Enforces your house style rules
- Corrects client and brand name spelling/capitalization
- Applies consistent terminology from your style guide
- Flags uncertain cases as comments for human review
Optionally, FirstEdit can also check spelling, grammar and other light copyediting tasks (this has slightly less accuracy than its house style checking).
FirstEdit will never:
- Restructure sentences
- Improve argument or logic
- Adjust tone or voice
- Make judgment calls on ambiguous style choices
- Change things it isn’t sure about
